Light Detection and
Ranging (LIDAR)
Sounds complicated and expensive right? Read on…
Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) is the complicated way of explaining “shining a torch” on the land and recording the results to give you an understanding of the topography of the land.
In Anambas, with most islands having a dense tropical canopy, the ability to accurately survey the land without clearing it (ie acquire all the required information in parallel with the development approval process) is a very attractive proposition.
This technology gathers over 100,000 data points per second when doing the survey and the result of this phenomenal amount of data is that many many data points get reflected through the thick canopy and return data from the natural ground of the islands. From this (and from real Anambas data) we can confidently say you will have a millimetre perfect measurement point at least every 12cm in every direction across the island from the water line!
The cost? – 2 full islands totalling over 7 hectares, was less than USD$7,500.00
The return? – The resort will open at least 3 months earlier by not having to wait for development approvals and being able to clear and survey the land, and the architects have generated centimetre perfect designs and quantities, so all tenders can go to vendors months earlier than otherwise would occur.
The payback of using this technology, even for a small development, is many multiples of the cost.
Kepri Estates can advise you on a selection of LIDAR companies that do travel to Anambas for surveys.
